Alvechurch Village Hall Refurbishment

Alvechurch Village Hall has benefitted from a comprehensive makeover after securing grants from three major sources. They are the Lottery Fund, Grassroots and Welcome to Our Future - an organisation which is dedicated to sustainable development which manages the Severn Waste Environmental Fund in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Proceeds were also boosted by a range of fundraising events organised by members of the Hall, such as Craft Fayres, quizzes, concerts and dances. All events were very well supported by the local and surrounding community.

Over the past two years £30,000 has been raised to make Alvechurch Village Hall more energy efficient. Warwickshire Energy Efficient Advice Centre recommended to achieve maximum energy reduction without losing any of Hall's character the following suggestions should be applied. The boiler should be replaced with a new condensing type, the wooden framed windows secondary glazed and most importantly would be to insulate the building.

Last year a new condensing boiler and thermostats were fitted, also the windows were secondary glazed. New chairs were purchased just in time for the Christmas Season and insulation of the roof voids inside the Hall has just been completed.

The Village Hall is in use six or seven days per week and used by all sections and ages of the community. Bear Hill Pre-school use the Hall daily during term-time. Jean Champ Dance School meet on Saturday morning and Tuesday evening. The organisations that use the Hall range in age caring from newborn onwards through all ages of childhood via the Welfare Clinic, the pre-school and toddler clubs, Rainbows and dance classes. Adults are catered for via drama groups, computer courses, dog training, watercolours, coffee morning, WI, Village Society, wine and beer societies and Parish Council meetings. The Hall offers disabled access and toilet. It has a main hall with stage, and a separate committee room, both with kitchen and toilet facilities.

Chairman, David Noakes says:

'A lot of hard work has gone into achieving our aim of making the Village Hall warmer, energy efficient and a pleasant environment for the Community and surrounding areas. We are looking forward to a prolonged life of the Village Hall.'

Current charges for the Main Hall are £20 per hour (min 3 hours).
